18 months today! Yay!

One full year of BLW behind us to the day. It's been fun, it's been horrible, it's been scary, it's been wonderful. Only now have we (FINALLY!) entered a stage where it's usually just neutral. I've become better at accepting the fact that bebe (no longer a bebe!) doesn't need an insane amount of food to live and prosper and that there are many days she still doesn't give a crap about things other than spaghetti or rice puffs. There's really not much one can do about it other than offer a lot of different healthy foods and cross one's fingers.

An Apple Thief at 18 months, tut-tut.

On a side note, as autumn came with it's berries and apples and whatnots, bebe has become more interested in fresh produce. Things self plucked don't seem to suck entirely - I guess she's a hunter-gatherer at heart.

Summer in the City Pt. 2

Have not been a busy bee with the blog the past few months. Have not been a busy bee full stop.

Picnicking

Since bebe's not eating anyway we might as well embrace the distracions and picnic our asses off.

Sunny Mother's Day

I've been a lazy ass updater and will probably continue to be one at least for a few more days. But good things come to those who wait, we've got some thrilling teething and sleeping news! So, exciting times...

...not.

Chairs, chairs!

Chairs are great (not high chairs, of course)! I think it's the danger element.

May Day picnic and such

First of May what's hot/what's not:

Hot: running, climbing, waving
Not: eating, sleeping

Yummo

"Helping" with a friend's birthday party preparations.

Also introducing a new tag: "treats"

I guess it means she's developing…

Hey, get a load of this super cool developmental phase: I call it the  "mum's gonna get a cardiac event" -stage.

Bebe's not eating anything we prepare for her, everything is "meh". She may take a tiny bite or open her mouth for a few spoonfuls if spoon-fed, but food isn't interesting.

Bebe's not sleeping. Whether it be naptime at noon-ish or bedtime, it takes her over an hour to fall asleep no matter how tired she is. Naps are short - nights are restless. Last night she woke up at 11:00 p.m, was tearful for 30 minutes, played for almost three hours, went back to sleep and woke up at 7 a.m.

Also, I think she might be entering the "terrible twos" a bit early. (Is there a better word for this? It's nicer in Finnish: tahtoikä, "the will-age".)

Mum and dad are extremely tired, can't remember words and wake up every day feeling strangely hungover without drinking and having heart palpitation due to sleep deprivation and not exercising properly (due to constantly feeling tired…).

The upside to all this is that she's developing. If bebe would always sleep the same amount of hours, eat the same amount of food, be equally infuriating every day, she wouldn't learn new things and get new kinds of stimuli. Changes in routines mean changes in the mind and the body, a.k.a. developing. This is my mantra now.

To lighten the mood and stick with the theme of the blog, here's a picture of bebe eating a few days ago:

Easy does it

Slowly beginning to self-feed again. The utensils are still a bit iffy, bowls and plates are a no-no (they get thrown on the floor) but eating with fingers is ok. I guess that's 'cause then bebe can scratch her gums as she chows down her porridge.

EDIT: Bebe is a proper Dr. Evil doppelgänger in this pic!

Turku

We spent the weekend in Turku at bebe's godmother's place.
The feeding-silliness continues same as teething.

Going through the motions

Spoon-feeding has been IN for a few days now. Bebe reluctantly takes a preloaded spoon only to hand it back to dad (usually mum won't do). Then she sits there leaning forward with her mouth open. "Gulp". And we start again...

Oops

Accidental cat food supper. Mum to the rescue...
...dad to the camera.

April moods

Easter monday at auntie's place. A bit of rye bread and a whole lot of play makes a happy bebe.

Piranha

Bebe's teething again. She has four molars emerging simultaneously and is QUITE cranky. I thought frozen yogurt pops would help her aching gums but surprise surprise she wouldn't even touch them. In for another sleepless night I guess.

Suspicions arise

Spaghetti and noodles have lost their zing. What used to be the go-to food, the sure thing, is now regarded with the same suspicion as everything else.

Crap!

Spice Girl

The spicier the better is the spirit of the time. Yesterday's lunch: green veggie curry

Bending the rules

We don't usually allow tv, toys etc. distractions at dinner table, but today Fez was just too cool for bebe to ignore and for dad to switch off.

also: spot the dog in the pic and get a cookie

Black gives way to blue

Stomach flu. First proper meal in five days. Mum and dad are knackered, bebe's just running around the house giggling. Can't write more, tired.

The joy of eating Pt. 2

The joy of eating

Well well, it's been an interesting (BLW-wise) couple of days. Something is different with bebe: she's kinda into eating! She may not eat more in amount but is really taking her time and exploring her food. Dare I say enjoying it. 30 minutes sitting down and concentrating on one thing is definitely a record!

Snack at grandma's

Murphy's Law

The one day that you actually have to go somewhere, do something and be on time bebe usually has no interest in eating, napping or pooing. Screw it, watch TV with the cat then!!

Peekaboo noodles!

Bebe is gradually getting back her appetite after the vaccines taken over 2 weeks ago. Today's eggplant-fennel-lentil-chèvre stew with sweet potato noodles was a hit and she even had some yoghurt and pear for dessert.

Hi mom!

I returned to work today. Got this pic sent to my phone.

Porridge Rorschach test

What do you see in this picture?
I see a baby who has her own opinion on what to do with supper.

Actually I see a spaceship.

Nuttin' but cheeze

Went to grandma's. Ate cheese. Rearranged kitchen cabinets. Ate more cheese...

...cheese!

Entering Toddlerhood

Bebe has no interest in food what so ever. She just doesn't give a rat's ass. It's the season of Lent, so I guess she's given up eating for 40 days. Cheese is apparently still OK for her Holiness, but that's pretty much it.

Party Girl

Bebe was more into entertaining guests than eating a few days back at her party. A bit of spaghetti from the day before was a sustainable snack before going back to host mode.

I made a fantastic, helthy and extremely tasty raw cake (not the pink-mint green one in the picture) with loads of fresh fruit especially for the birthday girl, and she just sucked on a piece of carambola for a few seconds and shrugged the rest off. Spaghetti spaghetti spaghetti... oh well.
